What is Norco?

Norco is in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics. Norco is used to relieve the pain. Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of hydrocodone. Together, acetaminophen and hydrocodone are used to relieve moderate-to-severe pain. Norco may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

How should I take Norco?

You can take NORCO orally, exactly as prescribed by your doctor. To avoid stomach upset, always take Norco with food or milk. Pain medications work best in preventing pain before it occurs. Once the pain becomes intense, the medication is not as effective in relieving it. Never take more Norco than is prescribed for you. Too much Norco could be very harmful.

Possible side effects from Norco

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Norco and seek emergency medical attention: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives); slow, weak breathing;seizures; decreased urination; or other possible side effects from Norco. Side effects other than those listed here for Norco may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual

Cautions when taking Norco?

Avoid alcohol while taking Norco. Alcohol can increase drowsiness and dizziness caused by the medication, possibly resulting in unconsciousness and death. Also, Norco can be damaging to the liver when taken with alcohol. Norco may increase the effects of other drugs that cause drowsiness, including antidepressants, alcohol, antihistamines, pain relievers and anxiety medicines. Dangerous sedation, dizziness, or drowsiness may occur if Norco is taken with any of these medications. Tell your doctor about all medicines that you are taking, and do not take Norco without first talking to your doctor.

What happens if I overdose with Norco?

If an overdose with Norco is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of an overdose with Norco may include: slow breathing, seizures, dizziness, weakness, loss of consciousness, coma, confusion and sweating.
